Your engagement session is like a warm-up for wedding day photos! In this guide you’ll find some suggestions on picking out something to wear for your engagement session, choosing a season, and a few other tips and tricks to make sure you get the most out of your session.

Most couples choose to do their engagement session about 7-8 months before their wedding. This way you’ll have beautiful pictures to use for your Save-the-dates, which usually go out at the 6 month mark. Because of my wedding schedule, engagement sessions are done during the week Monday-Thursday 2 hours before sunset or right at sunrise.

I always recommend dressing it up a bit and choosing something you would wear out on a date night or as a wedding guest. Dresses, jumpsuits, and skirts are all great options! For guys, jeans/slacks and a button up, suit jacket, or even a nicer collared tee can work!

My best piece of advice is to choose something you feel comfortable in and that makes you feel great. Try it on first!! If you’re the slightest bit uncomfortable, with the style, fit, colors, etc. then chances are it’s not a good pick for your photo session.
